Was not sure where else to put this. I'm sure someone can move it, if there is a better spot.
Realizing that I just 'legally' got started in the wide and wonderful world of Fire works, by obtaining my Pyrotechnic Lic. and Display Assistance Lic. I have been 'screwing' around with consumer grade fireworks for years as a teenager and into my 20's, yes not always in a safe manner and yes there have be a couple if situation I'm glad my friends and I walk away from. I'm in 30's now and a Lic. 442 electrician and had the opportunity to do the classes so I did and now I'm looking to expand my knowledge base. Only to find that the world for fireworks is so clouded in mystery and so heavily regulated in Canada, let me add in here that I do understand why it is so heavily regulated, but I still think its a little to much over done, tho. I have googled and youtubed a bunch and found that, holey crap they can do whatever they darn well want in the States from making there own 20" shells to buying chemicals over the net, I tend to think they need some regulations over there. But my next step to gain some insight is to make some business card up and pass them out to some firework stores that I wonder into offering my hands to help out any display supervisor just for the experience (good or bad idea?), as I'm finding there really isn't to much one can do being just a Pyro tech and display ass.
I understand with experience comes knowledge I have found that first hand when I did my electrical apprenticeship and this is no different but there seems to be so few people involved in this industry its next to impossible to move to the next level (so it seems). If I wanted to buy to some e matches and gerbs for a friends birthday party for an outside event I would bet to say that even through I am legally allowed to buy them I would be given a hard time with 101 question that I wouldn't know the answers to because its next to impossible to move to the next level (so it seems). Part of my problem is that I spent so much time on the net trying to learn and gain perspective that I saw what they do in the Stats and kept shaking my head saying "Nope can't do that here", then move to the next video and said "Nope can't do that either" and try find stuff more related to Canada, well there is some stuff but nothing overly knowledgeable. It would be nice to find some professionals willing to document the whole works, from the customer asking for a display to getting the paper work and documents in order and setting the show up and setting it off and then cleaning it up. From wedding events to Canada day celebration the behind the scenes view, if someone knows of such a view please pass it along. This is just my rant and a little conversation starter. Please by all means add your 2cents or even better your story for how you got into the business and how your finding the inner works of the industry to be.
