didn't know where to post this but I am curious if any other pyros deal with this problem.........
many times I have been approached to do shows and people expect a 20 min show for very little money, and when you tell them the cost they figure your prices are out to lunch
for example I had a music festival contact me to have me do a show and wondered if 2000 dollars would get them an unreal show when I said that with set up costs and labour it wouldn't get them much they were amazed................ Am I out to lunch or what

Yeah we have had that problem . Some expect a 20 minute show with lots of different effects for little money . Our solution is to show them a video of what $2000 will get you vs what $20 000 will get you . Usually that tends to take care of it.

We also have that problem,
We usually give them a list, and tell them to pick out what they want in their show, prices of each product is on the side and duration of the product
Or send them a pre made photo of a $$$ value show or let them know $$$ per minute,
I let them make the choice of duration and value, then I don't look like the bad guy, sometimes they sign the contact other times they don't
Some peoples expectations are not in line with what it costs

Yup we get that too. Once you educate your client on what it is they are getting and what's involved, the light bulb turns on.

I have always wondered about the pricing of these shows, as I have never been that close to planning.
What does $2000 even get you? I'm not sure I could even buy enough consumer fireworks to fill 20 minutes with $2000 if I had it all to spend on product.

In my mind for a good consumer show 2000 In just product wouldn't get you 7 mins

Sorry I am still laughing at the first post, how many 30K shows have you been told the Customer wants?? and how many of those actually come to light??
People have no clue what costs what and most groups or associations that head these things up goes much like this:
- Hey we should fire works. - Ok sure and what should we get or who? - I don't know call someone or talk to your friend of a friend who promised a great deal - How much do you want to spend IDK but I want a 30 min show - that is going to be around 30 K sure no problem - ***Crickets chirping**
Everyone wants Disneyland fireworks but as long as someone else is paying for it.

3000 didn't include set up costs or anything just fireworks and music equipment and they want me to bump it down to 2500

I have been told, $500.00 per minute is a good estimate for a display show. A consumer show might be around $200-250 per minute if this helps.
