We dealt with Scott form Cobra as well as Ms. Lucy (lol) from Alibaba.com and managed to procure 1800 talon igniters.

We are firing from two homemade firing systems (we love getting our hands dirty) with a total of 288 queues. Each main box has 144 queues and are wires to 6 satellite boxes which connect to up to 24 fireworks. Here's one of them. here are the satellite boxes for this system The main box connects using db-25 cables.

Thanks youpyro! It gets better... it's a pyro musical First we remixed our tunes. Baba O'reily into Free Bird into Bohemian Rhapsody into For Those About to Rock. Each song was mixed down to a reasonable three and a half minutes each (roughly). Lots of work cutting down Free Bird and still getting it to sound nice, as well as blending from one song to another. Once that was done we downloaded all the videos from youTube that were linked in the various fireworks suppliers sites. Once we had reasonable video footage of all available fireworks we proceeded to build a mock show using the video footage in some video editing software. Once we were happy with everything we made our list, checked it a million times and bought the required fireworks. The firing time for each queue can be read right out of the timeline on the video editor. Once we have all the firing times we input these times into some custom (homemade) timer software which runs on a netbook (one for each firing system). This software runs a timer of course but even better we've programmed it with voice so while wearing headphones a sexy British female voice tell us by number which queue to fire. That way we're not looking at the clock the whole time.

We've got ourselves a 3000 watt sound system so the first few hundred feet will hear it well (we're doing this at a lake), and hopefully if we can scrape enough money together last minute we'll be broadcasting the music on FM band to the radios in peoples boats. Kind of like at the drive-in. But we currently know nothing about FM broadcast lol. Hopefully the internet has some good resources.

Damn looks like a nice show is going to be happening. I notice the icon for the software named KFBPyro? is this all custom software you wrote for your custom hardware? If so I would love to hear more about that.
Edit- When is this show? Anyway I could maybe come out and watch it? (or if you need any help, but I am a pretty big newbie) Richmond Hill is only about a 45 min drive for me.

The show is sponsored by the Cottagers association rep for that lake. I wouldn't feel right inviting people to the private location unfortunately. But I very much appreciate the enthusiasm and offer for help. Maybe at some point all us rookie pyros could get all of our collective shit together and put on a show together! I could only imagine the sky carnage. Amazing shit KFBpyro, got to film that for sure. Tell us more about the program you have there. About the software and hardware. The hardware is just manual push buttons running off of two car batteries (for the amps) wired out to 6 satellite boxes with 24 +/- terminals. We did manage to build in a testing circuit. When in test mode you can push the button on a fully wired talon igniter already clipped to a wick and the volt/curr isn't enough to light the wick but will light up a blinking light on the box. That way once we're all ready to go we can verify a good circuit (manually of course) for each physical queue. The software is very primitive at this point and does nothing but save, load, and play back *.kfb programme files. As the timer in the software runs a voice tells us which numeric queue to push. When we connect the fireworks to their respective satellite boxes ( which are represented by their respective rows on the main firing board), we simply write the queue number in white board marker above the corresponding button. So we figure out all the fireworks locations with their satellite before hand. So it's still a very manual process. The software helps us fire at the right time to go with our music. The future plans for the software will be a timeline interface where a song can be loaded (or not if you don't want to do a pyro musical), and tabs can be set like chapter markers along the timeline which will represent a firing event. Then each marker can be assigned to a physical terminal on one of the satellite boxes, and also be assigned to which firework will be shot from the queue. Thsi would help with wick burn time predelay as well as air to to effect. So if you want a menace in the sky at 11:20:15 you place a tab at that location on the timeline. Then using a couple drop down menus you select the satellite, the terminal, and the firework. And the system will fire that menace 1.5 seconds ahead of time to account for burn and air times. We figured some raspberry pies and and a local wi-fi LAN should do the trick.

Today we finished all our fireworks purchases for our 2014 Canada Day Show. The biggest pain is that you can never find everything you need in one place! So much driving around. And Ice Storm and Heaven's Gate are sold out everywhere looks like a nice show, where are you's doing it ?

And Ice Storm and Heaven's Gate are sold out everywhere looks like a nice show, where are you's doing it ? We're shooting at a cottage on a lake front. The last couple years we've been doing shows at our family cottage and last year the cottagers association rep for our lake said they'd sponsor us from now on!! Which is great 'cause we were dropping $1700 of our own money just on fireworks. Now we get a $2500 budget each year

Wow that's an impressive amount of work you guys did, especially with the video edits to see what it'll look like.
Sure hope I get to see some video after the 1st!
Good luck with the show

Here's a shot of a couple of our stations all wired up and ready to go. Also a shot of the field. It was crazy to have so much space! And facing an entire lake! Here's a youTube link to the show. I hope you guys like it. Sorry for the shaking camera work. It was shot from a boat. And some ground shots were sporadically shot during the show. And there were supposed to be two Twilights at the beginning of Bohemian Rhapsody (our only empty spot boourns!) and neither fired! The wicks burned right into the first tube and nothing. Shame on you BEM. Never again. Competition stuff is killer. www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5AmY3-49rM

Nice job. timing was really good too especially considering you are using talons. Would love to see what you can do with some ematches. Around 4:45 you have some big willow effect, what is that?

The willow for sure is the Vulcan Golden rain willow. Had several in my show as well. Edit: Looking at the pictures I bet those willows are something different because I do not see it there, let us know KFB!

@ khogan - Those shots you're referring too are Silver Palms from BEM. We only used 4 golden rain willows and they were right at the very end to thicken up the final shot. What would the timing difference be with using eMatches? Right now we're cutting right into the casings of all our fireworks and clipping the Talons right up against the first tube. I guess it would save a fraction of a second to poke the cake and use an eMatch. What I worry about is the first shop loosing compression because of the poked hole and the first shot doesn't get very high. We have a set of brass lolly pokes and have done tests with home made eMatches and that first shot didn't get too high. Plu sunless you know a guy with some "fell-off-the-truck" eMatches we'll be using Talons until we manage to get our supervisor cards lol.
The lake is called Cordova lake. It's about an hour past Peterborough up Hwy 7.

Thanks for the info, that's a nice big break for a $4 tube item, gotta get some of those next year.
Do you cut down the fuse right to where it goes in the first tube and then attach the talon to the last little nub of fuse?

Here you can see a Dragons breath and Pandemonium cut into the first tube. We haven't snipped the excess wicks at this point. Also this is a good shot of a Greedy Goblin separated into two sections (the no-label tubes in the center). The left talon ignites the initial 20 shots that have a second or so between each shot. The talon to the right ignites the last row which is on quick-wick so all 5 go at the same time. Here is a Pirates Bounty with all 6 rows individualized. This gave us the control we needed for some parts in Bohemian Rhapsody. Cutting back wicks and pealing back labels to get to the root of the wicks and dismantling fireworks is tedious as shit and takes tons of time but in the end it's well worth it
