Hey Gang, been a long time since I've been on here! Glad to see the community is still alive and well! I wanted to let you guys in on a project I'm beginning to program (I've been a programmer and game developer for a few years now as a side gig). I've been really dissatisfied with some of the current offerings so I figured I would try my hand at making my own. Featuring a catalogue both 1.4 and 1.3, modeled after actual industry products, it would be something I would update once a year every year so that as you build your shows it can also index a price sheet based on current rates and costs. But that's the tip of the ice berg. It will also be able to simulate flame throwers, DMX lights / moving heads, and lasers; in the future, perhaps drones and water fountains as well but that's a long way off.
The priority being realistic simulations that emulate real product. Also a clean UI and intuitive timeline blocks method of composing shows to music.
-Highlight groups of fireworks and "fuse" them under one cue, select what kind of fuse they are connected by (i.e. visco, fast fuse, black-match, etc.) -highlight groups of single mortars or candles and instantly assign them to racks.
-Isometric 3D and top down "Show Plan" views. Export your shows into shot lists and group maps for shoot days. -Export to spreadsheet for use with COBRA systems.
-Search through actual product inventory.
And more!
I want to get your guys input and feedback though. What features would you like to see in this? I will be intending to sell this for $299 when it's finally ready but of course there will be a CANADIANPYRO code for all the people in this community to get it for $40 or something, not sure lol.
Anyways, this is just a mockup, but let me know what you think and what features you'd like to see. drive.google.com/file/d/19iSUvXjek51-oFnLQTV-SHYUmzI2RJ1G/view?usp=sharing

Hi Dbrodz,
Sounds exciting. I’m also a developer during the day and also studied game dev.
What sort of languages or frameworks you planning on building this in (sort of looks like unity)? An endeavour of this sort would be a lot of work for one guy. If you throw it up on github maybe we can contribute?

It is a lot of work lol. I'm still figuring out the logistics of it in terms of how it would operate. Primarily, I want to create software that uses "real product" simulations so that we can plan our shows with what will actually be shooting in the sky rather than presets or paltry simulations that look nothing like the actual thing; particularly with cakes and consumer material that is notoriously hard to choreograph. That being said, creating simulations for ALL the products out there or even just all of one brand consumer or professional would be a lot of work. I was tossing around the idea of taking a month off each year to program the fireworks for companies that pay to have their brands represented (mystical for example), and that's how it'd make money for the most part, still a lot of work though.
Funny you should mention game design because I was actually going to make this in Game Maker using GML. I'm very experienced with it and it's perfect for games and simulations. Either that, or I could code it in Swift or Java perhaps.
I'd love help though, perhaps a joint venture once I nail down how it would work.
One of my biggest goals is realistic simulation, I feel we are at the point where this much is possible at least.
