www.oronofair.com/I'm helping to put on a HUGE display fireworks show on Saturday at the Orono Fair (no, they aren't actually having a fair!) Gates open at 7:30pm. 2 Princess St. Orono, ON L0B 1M0It'll probably be the ONLY show in Durham this year! It'll be a BIG show, huge budget, monster 7" shells, and a finale you'll never forget. Please attend if possible. It will be run like a drive in movie, you must stay in your car, no access to washrooms or vendors. Food or monetary donations accepted on behalf of the Clarington East Food Bank. Thanks! -Jamie M.

Thanks for the info. Now I just have to convince my wife to take a 5.75 hour road trip to go see the show.

I saw the name Celebrations Fireworks and went to their website. On the professional Displays Page there is a video with wood racks that have no space between the mortars. These are the types of racks that are sure to blow apart if there is an in mortar explosion of a shell. I hope this company is no longer using these racks. If they are the only legal way to use them is with a barricade or at triple the distances normally required. celebrationfireworks.net/displays/I am happy to hear that a good sized social distanced fireworks show is happening but we do not want a Simi Valley California type incident happening here in Canada.

Video is up! We had two failure to fires. One was probably my fault: for one of the salute cakes (there were two) the ematch wire was running over another cake (I ematched the cakes) that shot before it so it broke the wire and the other one was a defective ematch (on one of the 6" shells). Tests good on the Cobra system, but even putting a 9v battery directly to it wouldn't ignite it. It was one of those cheap china ematches (in the black and colourful box, name escapes me). For my own shows I use only MJG ematches (firewire and J-Tek) and have had zero failure to fires but I'm sure it's a possibility with any brand. -Jamie M.

oh Jamie...., we spent so much time in the course talking about racks and looking at videos and photos of what can happen when racks fail. And the racks in this photo will fail. Remember the rules, they can still be used if 1) the racks are barricaded so in the case of a failure the audience is protected or 2) triple the safety distances. I know that you were only working on the show as a crew member but having just taken the course and this being fresh in your mind we all have a responsibility to try and change safety deficiencies when we see them. It would have been appropriate to tell the operator that you are not prepared to work on the show because of the safety issues. How did it make you feel when you saw this mortar rack setup? I wouldn't like to see your upgrade to Supervisor be at risk for situations like this 😨

I wouldn't like to see your upgrade to Supervisor be at risk for situations like this 😨 If it was my show and I was supervisor I would have used different equipment. The AHJ did an inspection when the show was finished being assembled and found no deficiencies. The distance to the crowd was insane (I had to zoom the video in 2x otherwise it was just on a tiny part of the screen) so I assume they set it up for triple the safety distances (6" shell safety distance 125m x 3 = 375m) for use in those racks. I sync'd the audio to the breaks in the video to remove the long distance audio delay. -Jamie M.

The distance to the spectators may have been 375m, but was the distance to a major highway the same?
You indicated you had a large quantity of 7" shells, how were those mortars secured?

The distance to the spectators may have been 375m, but was the distance to a major highway the same? Crowd was parked against the fence right at the highway so yep, same distance. You indicated you had a large quantity of 7" shells, how were those mortars secured? They were buried in the ground, post hole digger FTW! -Jamie M.
