Nope sorry. ERD classifies FireWire igniters the same as regular igniters so their purchase requires a Supervisor FOC card plus a signed Event Approval. I checked with Ottawa as soon as MJG can out with them. Also they are not approved for importation into Canada.

They are on the approved explosives list for both fireworks accessories and rocket motor accessories, why wouldn't they be importable? The list JUST changed, so perhaps when you checked they weren't on the approved list yet?? -Jamie M.

Yes you could Import them with an Import permit which would require you to have legal storage for them but they cannot be used for consumer fireworks. There is a risk of ignition every time an electric match is installed in a firework and they can ignite unpredictably under other conditions. So I would guess that this is at least part the reason why the ERD does not allow them for consumer fireworks.
Explosives regulations Part 16 Consumer Fireworks section 358 (2)
Electric match (2) A user must not use an electric match to fire fireworks.

Mjg was telling me they were legal to consumers up here and were willing to sell them to me as part of their bulk shipment if they do one next year. Have also been told that rocket hobby shops will sell them direct to anyone up here

Yes you can buy them from rocket hobby shops but not from fireworks sellers. Electric igniters have always been legal in Canada for rocketry. The explosives regulations although not perfect but are based on safety in the use of explosives. There is much less risk in using 1 electric match to launch a rocket than a fireworks show where you may use hundreds. Injuries and from hobby rocketry in Canada are pretty much nonexistent. The same cannot be said for fireworks. Yes you could buy J-teks from a rocket shop and use them on consumer fireworks but you would be committing an offence against the explosives regulations as per my previous post

Hope your not planning on punching cakes with those, unless you have a division 2 factory license
