Hello everyone, I just past my Display Assistant certification in August and my card just came in so now I am looking for pyrotechnic companies in Ontario to work with. I was wonder if people know of or work with companies I could ask if they need help. I already am on Northstar fireworks list, and I will be asking Supernova Fireworks if they need help, anyone know of some others I could ask?

Most companies are not looking for a free lance technician. They want a tech that will work exclusively with their company.

Oh, interesting I hadn't thought about that, well no one has told me yet that yet so I'll just wait and see.

Is that because companies can keep people busy enough during the fireworks season and there's a shortage of bodies? I would have thought an industry like this with short bursts of busy would be ideal for a independent contractor type guy.

Yeah, this is also what I was assuming. I mean yeah I'm sure companies have core technicians that they use for bigger shows and shows outside Canada / competitions. But I would have assumed they want a pool of people they could ask for help and not care if they also work for other companies.

Most technicians seem to have full time day jobs, and are only available on the weekend. Not everyone wants to work every weekend, so a company can easily have a large pool of technicians and keep them all happy with a rotating schedule. The fireworks industry in Ontario is very cut throat and aggressive. The idea of technician working for a company's competitor does not seem appealing for an owner.
