Have you tried cutting the fuse at an angle prior to clipping igniter into it?

Where you attach the ignitor to the fuse: Take your thumb nail and twist it back and forth to loosen up the tight winding of the fuse until you see the powder starting to come through. Then place your ignitor on the fuse. Never had any issues with ignitor not igniting the fuse this way. Some of the fuses that are on some fireworks are like rock hard so you need to lossen the fuse up.
Good luck!

That's a good tip Pyro Boss. I've got a box of 3M and 5M talons, but I never really get a chance to use them. The few times I have, they've worked without trouble, but I'll try your trick next time to make sure I don't lose any parts of the show.
