I don't find the Cobra systems that bad , I just ordered a system from Scott , I have been playing around with his software also, I like
I am starting with a 108 shot system and his audio box , also grabbed som talon clips
I used this system on a big show in Brampton and like it , thus why I have saved my money and got it

just remember you get what you pay for , The Cobra system is not the cheapest
I would rather pay a little more then grow my system then buying a cheap system , then RE buy another and so on as I grow
you can just buy the remote and one module , then add modules as needed

You would be surprised on how many backyard pyro's have these systems now, and its climbing in Canada at a high rate. If you think about it, its more safe, show goes way smother then hand lighting, and most of all you can sit back and enjoy your own show!

I am a fan and supporter of Cobra. We use them on lots of our professional shows, even if its just to fire a few remote effects or the big finale. But we've done larger barge shows and used a couple dozen of the units. They're easy to use, reliable, and very powerful in terms of features if you want to try scripting. I own 3 18M, and an 18R2 myself, along with the snapstick so I can change firmwares to match other people's equipment. The group of us that work together pass equipment around, so even though I only have 3 modules currently, I have access to many more if I need to borrow them which helps ease the costs for everybody who's using them for their backyard portion of the hobby. I personally also have a 2 license copy of the Cobra Scripting Software, as well as Finale Pro, and I've been playing with both. I scripted a new years show for a friend who tested it out with a stack of our cobra equipment and it turned out awesome. He was shooting up at his cabin for family/friends only so it was a good test opportunity... I'm Looking forward to trying them out this year on an actual show. Thankfully, I've got a show lined up for May long weekend, so at least I'll be out soon setting off some bombs... the itch to go play is killing me!

Hi Xplode, how is the Cobra Scripting software, easy to work with? I've only played with the Pyro Ignition software. Pretty great for since its free.

Yeah, its quite easy to work with. There's no visualization component so you have to handle that in your head, but its fast and easy to get a show setup. You can download it from Cobra's website and its free for 7 days. I don't think it exports until you pay, but its great. and with a 2 year license for only $50, its pretty cheap. I talked Scott into offering a 2-unit license for an extra $20 too - so if you're like me and move between a desktop and laptop, you can save a few bucks.

It's not nessecary to purchase the scripting software, they have an excel sheet on their website, as well. The excel sheet is pretty basic to do, if you can understand putting a number for time and what cue to fire 00:00:01.25 Ch1 cue1 00:00:02.45 ch2 cue 5 Etc...
Have a lot of experience with it, very resourceful system. I've got a guy that works with me who owns 40 modules, and does a full scale pyromusical with it. Uses a lot of batteries. I also had one of my guys discover the remote floats in water.

i bought the 18r2 and 1 18m module this spring. All i can say is wow what a difference! the scripting is easy to set up you can download for free the script from cobras website. i did a few little tests firing off random fireworks using this script feature went really smooth.
I love the cobra
if you do shows for people i definatly recommend this system!!

Excel works too, and the list of error messages for the 18r2 is helpful when you're troubleshooting something you created by hand. But honestly, if you're planning on including any kind of a musical component, the software is well worth the $50. Being able to actually play back the show so you can see it happening real time is a great confidence booster than you got it all right. Makes the scripting process much faster too.
I'd like to see any videos you have as well.
I just got access to an audiobox for a nice big show we're doing May 13th, so this weekend we're testing out some shell timing. definitely wouldn't try doing it without some sort of scripting software. far too much work.
