Anybody seen or used this before? Mystical came out with it this year they're calling it "9 Big Shots". phatboyfireworks.ca/shop/?p=7848Seems pretty pricey for four mortars. Although, how big are the mortars? The effects look good but I just wanna know if anyone on here has seen it or lit it off before?

Hey dbrodz, I've been told that they are not in Canada yet but should be here just in time for Canada Day. I've placed a pre-order for them. Looks interesting for one cake with 9 mortars.

I think I read in another thread here that these will be individual tubes in a pro pyro branded box, not a cake.
Not a bad deal, in that case.

I'm just wondering what sets these apart from other regular mortars? Are they larger in diameter?

No idea, but I would assume they are the same size as the larger Vulcan tubes (golden rain willow, red&white peony, ect)... which are usually about $10 each. So 9 for $65-$75 isn't so bad.

Ya, found out that as well and won't be till middle of July if that!
This is what bugs me about a company that makes these big announcements then never provides product till after the season. Just keep quiet till these are available to the public, in stock.
Rant over!

Yep, I just heard that today from my supplier. Supposedly, won't be available until mid July, if that.

I just bought one of these. I thought it was like a 500gram cake modeled after the USA cakes that look like this.
Sadly they are individual mortars just boxed up to look like a 500 gram cake. I was hoping it was a cake. So I plan to secure the mortars to a board and fuse them all together to then I'll fire it with the cobra. I'll let you guys know how it looks. I bought it for $50 so it's just over $5 a shot which isn't bad. I think if you pay $80 or whatever it usually retails for then I think may be overpriced.
The top of the tubes all have a black cover that says 50mm which is a 2" mortar, but I didn't think you could buy 2" shells without a permit and supervisor license. I thought all the consumer mortars couldn't exceed 1.75" I wonder if they really are 2" shells. I can buy a case of 2" professional shells that work out to about $5 each too, but these would be easier to fuse together.

Thanks for the report. Are you able to leave it in the box and access all fuses or do you have to unpack it from the box that holds all the motors together? Regarding the 50mm, that is the max for a consumer mortor/shell in Canada. the 1.75" is for reloadables in the USA. however even though we can have a 50mm shell the amount of pyrotechnic composition allowed is only 25g, where I think its 60g in USA. The rule is specifically for shells that are part of a single shot tube. I think in the USA they can have single shot tubes that are even bigger than 1.75" Some more info here: www.nrcan.gc.ca/explosives/publications/guidelines/9945#AB2411.0 Shot Tubes 11.1 Construction Inside diameter: no more than 50 mm (C) 4.0 Shells (These are allowed only as a component of a shot tube.) 4.1 Construction Outside diameter: no more than 50 mm (C) / No more than 1 shell/tube

That makes sense. So does that mean a professional 2" shell will have more composition than an 2" consumer shell? Or does it vary?
Yes I think that you can get consumer firework cakes in the USA that have 3" tubes. I'm sure I've seen them in a video on YouTube before.
As for the 9 big shots, you gotta take them out of the box. I got it all fused together and mounted now. I would post a picture but I don't have a clue how to do that..lol

I am not sure, but would imagine that a 2" display shell will have a lot more composition than a 2" consumer shell. The only limitation I see is that reports cannot have over 85 g of flash composition. You can read more about the specifications for display shells here: www.nrcan.gc.ca/explosives/publications/guidelines/9945#AD11To post a picture be sure to hit the reply button instead of using the quick reply, then you can add an attachment, or upload your image to an image sharing site like imgur and use the insert image button. Let me know if you need more details.

Thanks khogan! You are very helpful!
But I only see a "reply" button at the top right and a "Reply to Topic" at the bottom, but neither allow me to add attachments. I suppose because I'm browsing the site with an iPhone. Perhaps if I browse the site on a computer it will give me these attachment options?

Hi Khogan, I figured it out, I can't post pictures from an iPhone. It seems I can only do this from a computer. Anyway, here is the 9 big shots I fused and mounted. Now that I fused it to be a true 9 shot cake, it looks pretty bad a$$ for a consumer effect!Attachments:
