Hey Guys!
Some pyrotechnically inclined friends and I are starting up a small seasonal pyro business doing weddings, galas, parties and special events. My intention is to use all consumer product.
My curiosity is, what do I need to know before venturing into something like this? And do I need any permits to launch consumer shows on private and or public property?
Thanks guys!

Where do I begin. Let's start with insurance... It's brutal here in Canada. Very hard to find. Very expensive. Especially if multiple insurance policies are involved for an event. I learned the hard way. I joked with my insurance agent that if I had a business in porn, I'd have less resistance. As for permits, as a company selling your services. You need permits. Even for 1.4G. Let's talk about fire departments. Every FD wants something different on their technical outline. I started my company in 2012 and every day I run into a new obstacle. Good luck with your venture. I'm not trying to discourage you but some days are harder than others.

Thanks Kooks. I see, so I'll just have to do a lot of my own research then. I suppose my biggest hurdle would be money...

Anytime dbrodz! The initial startup costs are substantial but that could be said of any small business. Indeed do some research on your own. Thru this site and others. Ask questions either public or PM. There are no stupid questions. Have a realistic vision that is attainable and with some blood sweat and tears... it will naturally grow.

Aha, well here's hoping! You know what they say about pyrotechnics... It's the business where your money literally goes up in smoke!
Thanks, a lot!

Hey dbrodz, True that... but I don't look at it like that... look at it like this... I get paid to blow sh!t up. I'm here to learn from you as you are here to learn from me and together with this forum, we all can create a new level appreciation for fireworks.
