"Ontario: Patriotic holidays and multiculturalism
The urban south of Ontario isn’t forest fire county, but it does have a lot of immigration from countries with fireworks culture, so it’s not surprising the rules are fairly liberal, and getting more so.
“Toronto‘s actually gone the other way, rather than tightening up,” says Paul.
For much of Ontario, you’re good on or around Canada Day and Victoria Day without a permit, and some GTA municipalities now allow fireworks on the Hindu festival of Diwali. In Toronto itself, you might get away with lighting them off on Chinese New Year, and it’s possible to score a permit for other occasions."
All and all the article doesn't really give much info, not anything new. I found it mildly amusing when I read "so it’s not surprising the rules are fairly liberal, and getting more so" really..... really..... oh I don't think so.... and this little part at the end "and it’s possible to score a permit for other occasions." I guess this guy didn't look into what it takes to get a permit for 'other occasions' wow, this course I just did my instructor was telling us that they are looking for One Million dollars insurance liability for permits, now that's for Display fireworks, and event shows but I think asking for a permit for consumer fireworks shows is not far off.

I read about the permit in Brampton, and it seemed like it would be almost impossible to get just based on the rule "Brampton residents with properties that are at least 18 metres (60 feet) wide at the front must have a permit to use fireworks on their property." I don't think many people have that large of a property.
I have read that some cities provide a safe place for people to go light off fireworks, I wish we had something like that.

I agree with you Khogan even if they could allow it in some larger out of the way parks, in a particular area and I would still be ok with it if I had to apply and pay a 'REASONABLE' fee for the particular night I wanted. I guess one would still have to keep in mind that people (like myself) work shifts and I still am required to work weekends so living beside a nice large park and having fireworks go off because its the weekend would not make for a good nights sleep, and home resale may be an issue. Still if I wanted to get written permission from a land owner to say its ok, I think that should be all that is required. I wonder why that's not the case, I can get written permission from a land owner to go hunting but fireworks is a how different case.
