Looks like the Mississauga East-Cooksville MPP Dipika Damerla made a request to the mayor and they decided to put in an exception for this year
" MPP Dipika Damerla (Mississauga East-Cooksville) thanked the City of Mississauga’s Council for temporarily granting her request to issue an exception to allow fireworks on Diwali. She had written a letter to Mayor Bonnie Crombie on July 9, requesting the Council to change the current Fireworks By-law (0293-2001) to permit the use of fireworks on Diwali similar to the permission granted on Victoria Day and Canada Day holidays. “As an inclusive city it is vital that it accommodates the diverse religious and cultural traditions in its by-laws,” her letter had stated. The letter was discussed in Council on September 16 and again on October 28. In the latest meeting, a temporary exception was made to the City’s fireworks related by-laws. It now allows fireworks to be set off during Diwali (November 11 to 15, 2015) and Chinese New Year (February 8, 2016)."

You know what, I may try to do the same thing, for Halloween. I thinks its BC the only time they are allowed to use fireworks is Halloween. I know that weather this time of year is a little questionable but if we could add some days here and there to the add to the year, why not.

BC does seem to be the only place that allows fireworks on Halloween. It's worth a try but I think you would have better luck going for something like Diwali or Chinese New Year rather than Halloween. Fireworks on Halloween seem to be more related to mischief and possible ties to Guy Fawkes Night. Fireworks on Diwali or Chinese New Year are about celebrating multiculturalism so it's harder to say no to that. Here is an interesting article about Vancouver's history of fireworks on Halloween: www.vancitybuzz.com/2014/10/firecrackers-became-vancouver-halloween-tradition/

nice article, thanks... I guess your right, Its worth a try.
- Diwali (Dīvali, Dīpāwali, or Deepavali) is a festival of lights observed on the 15th day of the month of Kartika in the Hindu calendar. Many people in Canada celebrate Diwali each year. Diwali is also known as the "Festival of Lights".

I think you should talk to the mayor's office, seems like they are in charge of the By-laws. Maybe if there is a meeting you can go to so you ban bring it up in person that would help, or find some people in the area that support the idea and get them to send letters also.

I think finding people in the area might be a hard thing to do. frist thing i'm thinking is write an email to the mayors office and ask for a direction to go and if this is something worth persuing, then take it from there.
I kind of wonder whats going to happen in Missisauga after the one year? I think the end result maybe, it gets looked at and they end up saying there was on real intersent (no one lighting off fireworks) so forget about it. or there ends up being someone getting hurt / something getting damaged and they vote that its a bad idea.
anyways, whenI get around to it, I may post my email before sending it to get everyones 2cents on it.
*please forgive all the 'sp' in this post my cell phone has a small screen and i'm tired of back tracking to correct them*

I am hoping that in Mississauga these 2 days will be uneventful and that will be reason to make the change permanent. They are probably looking to see if someone gets hurt or property gets damaged so they can say its a bad idea, but I am hoping that if all goes well, even if there is not a lot going on that they will just allow the change to happen.

I know that weather this time of year is a little questionable but if we could add some days here and there to the add to the year, why not. Nope, Chinese New Year, Canada Day and many of the Indo Canadian celebrations are permitted to include fireworks in BC. Regional By-laws are the hang up. A quick trip through Oliver BC - and you'll see fireworks being sold year-round at Indo-Canadian fruit stands The orchard lights up during Sihk celebrations. Good times!
