So I finally got a chance to do my own scripted segment without having to work under the rule of a specific client/boss. Feels Absolutely Great! I was shaking before pressing the button to start, and for about 10 minutes after the show ended. The crowd absolutely loved it - it was a complete surprise to most people since i didn't tell everyone ahead of time we were going to do it. (We were just shooting a basic halloween show as far as everyone else knew) The show was scripted in Finale Pro, Shot using 8 Cobra Modules and an 18R2 plus Control Panel Tablet (Which I highly recommend if you use your cobra more than once a year - instant confidence your show is going to work!). The show used almost exclusively Mystical Distributing's products (Except for the strobes, and the 3 gold comets shot right at the end).... 142 effects on 95 Cues lasting just over 4minutes. 136 Consumer Items (1.4g), and 6 commercial cakes (1.3g). The music is a Bastille feat Gabrielle Alpin cover of Dreams. We ran super late setting up so a couple of the comets ended up getting mounted to the 45deg boards instead of 60degree boards, and i didn't have time to fix one igniter before we fired. Overall though, the show was a complete success and I can't wait to do another one. Here's the video and some pics of the setup. www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqEngXcgZ_o&feature=youtu.be

Well done! What's the cake at 1:20?
I like the comet rack. May have to steal that idea. Is it tight enough that the mines/comets don't move?

Thanks!
I want close enough to see if the comets actually wiggled, but they were pretty secure with 1x1 strip and gorilla tape.
The cake at 1:20 is "Falling Leaves"

Great show Xplode! What strobes did you use?
Markham, looks like its Mystical's Falling Leaves consumer cake, tried three together this year and loved the effect.

Great show Xplode! What strobes did you use? Markham, looks like its Mystical's Falling Leaves consumer cake, tried three together this year and loved the effect. Yup. I there are 3 firing in the early part of the show, and near the finale I shoot 5 more. They are consumer grade product. And I quite like them, but they are a bit pricey in terms of sky-size/dollar. The strobes are a product I got from a friend who had them in his stash. I'm trying to convince Mystical to import some better quality strobes than what is currently in their line up. Feel free to email the sales guys and tell them if you want something better!

Nice Job!!! love the final.
Why did you pick that song? Nice work on the cues, work well with the song.
Just because no one has ask, I am going to assume that its not polite to ask but I am extremely curious how much do you figure the show was?

Not sure why I picked this song. It just spoke to me. I love the idea of doing a big show to a fast paced rock song, but I like the idea of an emotional connection to the show better. So a slower song was what i was looking for. I just stumbled across it on YouTube and instantly loved it.
As for the cost, I'd say it was in the $1500 range if you only count the product used, and supplies required to make it happen. Some of the commercial cakes had to be purchased in cases, and such so my actual cash outlay was a lot higher. That guess isn't counting time and energy of me or any of my volunteers either.

That's not bad I guess, $1500.... What do mean by supplies required? (wood to build stands, and such)

Yeah - wood for the racks, plus ematch igniters (~140 ematches is a notable value), plus tie wraps and tape and all the little stuff. Those things all add up.

Thanks guys! I keep going back and watching the video critiquing. There were lots of mistakes, lots of room to learn and improve. I'm cruising about YouTube right now looking for inspiration for my next one.

Just saw this now!
Wonderful job. Everything is exquisitely timed, interesting music choice too- I like the fact that you did something different, most fireworks shows always try to be overly grandiose and always make sure to have a huge finally but this was soft and more moving.
Well done! Look forward to more stuff.
