Are all of you guys on here Professionals? as in do display fireworks F.2 stuff for a living?
I ended up doing some research online just out of curiosity and found that AirMagic in Toronto was holding a course that lined up with my work schedule (442 Electrician by trade, 12 hour shifts) so I enrolling... now I will freely admit that I figured I would be able to do a hell of a lot more with fireworks now that I am certified but really after doing the class's (Pyrotechnics, Special Effects & Display Fireworks) I learned a lot about safety and the in'er workings of what a show takes to setup and take down, I really had no idea about all the permits and paper work, it was a super class; Mark Fine did a spectacular job with the class. At the end of day, unless I feel like spending a stupid amount of money on buy Display fireworks and getting all the stuff in order (paper work & equipment & still need a Supervisor) I am still only setting off consumer fireworks on the holidays just like everyone else.....
I am just wondering what would a 3" shell cost?
Just putting this out there, if any for you need a hand on any jobs I am willing to help out just for the experience, if it lines up with a day I'm not working (still need to pay the mortgage)

Check out Mystical pricing, and go from there. If you actually open an amount with them, once you're a supervisor, you'll get better pricing. Also, there are several other suppliers, but you often gave to pay shipping, which is huge on dangerous goods.
See if you can get your experience in with some local companies and then decide. I worked with a few local companies for a while, and just saved up the money I made to pay for the equipment I wanted. Slowly I learned a ton, and now have a bunch of my own cobra gear to use. The paperwork is a pain, bit running your own show is pretty spectacular.

I called Mystical and had a few question for them, really helpful... Thanks for the link khogan So I am just wondering. If I get the experience and become a Supervisor, would I then be able to go to a place like Mystical and be allowed to buy one or two 3" shells just to see what they do or do I have to get all the paper work as if I'm doing show (address of show, insurance papers, etc...)

No supplier can sell you anything 1.3g without a signed event approval permit from the AHJ. So no, you can't just buy a couple of items to test out. Mystical, sadly, doesn't do partial cases of 1.3 product either, so they won't sell you a couple of loose shells even if you have a permit. You have to buy a case.
And honestly, that sort of question about what the product does should be answered by the time you've done your experience and applied for your upgrade. No one should be applying for an upgrade if you haven't handled, loaded, and fired some shells yet. (You'll need a signed letter of recommendation from a supervisor to get your upgrade anyway).
If you get your assistant license, you should be able to find some work (even if its volunteer at first) to get some basic experience with the products.
I'm guessing from your past posts that you're in Ontario? If I'm wrong and you're out my way then I can happily put you to work learning on a show.

Thanks Xplode for the feed back. True, True experience should answer those questions. I am in Ontario, and really I should finding places and handing out a letter just to put my name out there and if some side work comes my way where I can help out and getting some display experience I can start a log book. The trick would finding these places that need the help.
