So I'm just wondering, I was watching the show that Xplode did for Halloween fireworks see it here: canadianpyro.ca/thread/425/halloween-pyromusical
When you use e-matches on consumer fireworks you eliminate the fuse delay but is as easy as just pulling out the fuse and popping in the e-match? do you have to make sure you have the right spot and only put it in so far, are cakes a different animal then candles and mortars?
I apologize for all the questions, just trying to learn.

Cakes and tube items are the easiest. Pretty much just pull the fuse out and push an igniter in the hole. You have to look at the specific Firework and see what will work best, but it's not super complicated.
Barrages and candles are a bit trickier since you can't just pull the fuse out. I slide some black match fuse into the top of the candle and then insert the igniter down on top of that. The igniter flashes the black match no problems, and that will light the visco fuse down close to the effect so there is very little delay. 1 or 2 seconds at most.
That said, you need a license to purchase and use quick match/black match. Same for ematches. (Although I recognize there are consumer grade options available now)

As well, once you pull out the fuse, you have officially altered them and thus would require a permit. At least that's what I've been told...please correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, I should have been more clear with the license comment. Although technically I believe the wording is that it is illegal to modify fireworks in any fashion. The ERD just looks the other way (with licensed operators) since the intent of ematching isn't to "modify" the behavior of a product, but simply ignite it remotely and still have it function entirely as intended by the manufacturer.
