Hi Guys,
Okay, I would like to ask where everybody shoots their fireworks? I use the park across the street from me which has been fine for the last couple of years. But I have heard some stories that the local police dept. are cracking down on doing this! I can understand that it is private property and all but come guys lighten up a bit.
Love to have some imput from everyone.

I shoot it off my nieces house, did it at the park ! they usually will not say anything if you clean it up.
Some cops are more severe then others.

You have to read your municipal by laws. Every city/town/village had different rules. I would call them as well as your local fire dept and police station to get their opinion. I've done that and positioned it that you are asking because you are most worried about lighting fireworks safely. That said, I wouldn't disclose your exact location. More just talk in general. You will be surprised how helpful they can be if you stress the safety aspect.

lol, good thread. Around here we shoot in the park as well. All the neighbourhood is here and we really do things really safe. If the local law inforcement come here to tell us to stop they would have alot of people freaking on them, so they leave us alone hehe.

We just use an open field across from my house. Two years ago we had police stop and they were watching the show!

We have decided just to continue in the park, nice wide open space and we can do it very safe.

Calling the local authorities is your best bet, as was suggested by others. I'm not sure, but you may be able to get an event permit for the park without having an actual display license so long as you are only using consumer legal product...
Most of the municipalities around my area have banned the use of consumer fireworks, but some still offer "family permits" for holidays and then at least you're legal. Its worth looking in to anyway. Just be general with locations.

I also use a park right across the street from us for 8 yr;s,The police always show up but no problems as of yet,I always call the fire dept and police to let them no i am doing a show,But it has grown pretty big from about 30 people to about a 1000 now,They say the only problem is the amount of cars lined up on both sides of the street because the buses cannot get by lol .This yr on May 24th i will be doing another show it will be huge got about a 120 cakes and it;s been on the radio ,news and papers so i think the police will be by again.

Wow Peter, do you get financial aid for your show or is it all out of pocket??
If they're getting that big, I'm surprised they aren't making you get event permits.

Yes i go around to the people who live in the area and get them to chip in,then i try to guess on how much the end result will be when it comes to cash,\and people i invite over donate also,I do end up paying a few hundred out of my pocket but no big deal,I gotta order fireworks ahead of time so i never no exactly what cash i will get.I will have approx $3000-$4000 show this time,i also go around to the business in town and get gift cards and bowling ,and pizza's and stuff to give away and raffle,Got over $500 in prizes this yr and 2used but good shape kids bikes to give away.Funny you guy's say that because I can see that coming

Reminds me of when I was a kid and our neighbourhood would all chip in for a big halloween display. Lived on a dead end street and everyone got along, so they'd all chip in $20 and we'd have a nice big long show. The cop that lived on our street would throw up a barricade, fill some buckets with sand and light everything for people to watch. The Moms and Wives would organize hot coffee and hot chocolate, along with caramel apples and the works...
Not too many places you could get away with that now it seems.
I'm glad you're keeping that kind of community spirit alive!

It would be nice to keep it going but i got a feelin this will be the last yr,not everyone is a happy camper in the area which is a shame because it's for the kids mostly .But incase it is the last one I'm going out with a huge bang, with the biggest show i've ever done here, last yr i had around $3000 worth after my orders today i am well over $4000 Gonna Rock The Sky

Do you have a display license? work on that, then you can pull an event permit and see if the municipality wants to get on board with it. Perhaps they can turn it into an event?
No sense in letting it die after you've grown it this large! Plus if you're crazy like the rest of us, you won't be able to sit around idle next year... that's ludicrous!

We have a large property in Quebec - I can shoot year round - No neighbours nearby .
For those of you who don't have a spot , Ever think of approaching a Summer Camp ? One of my associates does a show for a camp usually around Canada Day - Kids just love the fact that they get their own private show .
