Big troubles in little China. Shipping fireworks out of Shanghai has been stopped while they sort of some issues. As I understand Beihai port is still shipping but is at max capacity. There may still be some in transit that cleared before the shutdown, but as I am to understand, nothing would leaving Shanghai right now, legally at least. Check your suppliers, get your orders in for July 1 early.

In the pdf file from AFSL it says the situation developed as a result of serious fireworks accidents that happened recently in China. I follow fireworks accidents in China and I am not aware of any recent serious accidents. Here is a link to perhaps a better explanation of the current events that started with a pesticide plant explosion not fireworks. dominatorfireworks.com/2019_China_Fireworks_Shipping_Crisis.htmlThe scenario seems similar to the Tianjin Explosion. A disaster happens because of a business operating outside regulation through corruption. The disaster happens then the Chinese government government overreacts applying stringent inspection and regulation to anything seen as hazardous. The Tianjin explosion did not affect us much in North America because it was in August but it caused shipping problems for the British and Europeans with their big fireworks seasons happening in the fall and New Years. The fireworks shipping has been temporarily opened from May 1st to the 20th but with the backlog in peak shipping season it is not likely that all the fireworks containers will make it out of China

WOW, I wonder how bad this is going to affect Canada day. I know a lot of large 1.3g suppliers and companies usually only order 1-2 times per year, and right around now is when most are expecting their large shipments!

Great link, thanks for that.
From the link: "It is estimated that 1,000-1,500 containers bound for the USA remain in China as of April 25th and Beihai can only process about 200 of those per week" Wow. And to think that's just US bound containers...

Having seen Beihai port I think even 200 containers a week is optimistic. The container ships at Beihai are small feeder ships 92 x 16 meters so less than 30 containers per layer and fireworks go only on the top layer out to the ends of the ship. The port only has facilities to load 1 ship at a time.
