So I have a 8month old at home and figured I would ask from a safety aspect / parenting aspect.
I know ear muffs are a MUST have (any recommendations, amazon links or names & brands) but at what age would to let your child watch a 1.4 show or even a 1.3 show?
when they are old enough to stay up that late?

Baby Banz ear muffs seem to be the choice of mothers and they are available at Walmart. They have a decent NRR and fit small heads quite well. The totally foldable ones seem quite good. I am not a parent, but we are very attentive to our nieces and nephews. I believe in encouraging them to watch. If they cry, get them inside and let them watch through a window. In a couple of years they can't wait for the show. This has worked for over 30 years of entertaining my family's kids of all ages with fireworks.

Baby Banz thanks I will look into that. I was told from a couple of parents that, young'ings like the colour & lights its the sounds that makes them cry and even with ear protection it can be over whelming. So if you can watch them from a distance where the sound is minimal where you don't really need the ear protection for the 1st couple of time and get them closer where they know 'yeah big bangs happen' its not such a impact on them. This approach seems look a good idea as you want them to have a good experience and not cry when you say 'we are going to see some fireworks' But at what age do you bring them? My 8month old son is in bed most of time at 6:30 / 7:00 so trying to keep him up till 9:30 / 10:00 is not fair for him and can make for a not so good day the day after.

Start them young !!!!!! LOL.
Base it on the kid. If they start freaking out and crying, well I guess take them away and try again next year.
Both my grand-kids loved fireworks right from the get go!! My grandson was 3 months old when he watched his first 1.4g show, and loved it. The granddaughter was almost a year, but still, other than being startled at the start, loved it !!! Ear protection is a very good idea, and even the regular earmuffs are ok as long as an adult can help hold them on the ears.
