Well I asked what kind of head protection you folks like and most said fire helmets. there are 2 kinds (Korean style and European style) The European style has ear protection and the Korean Style is more like the old fashioned fire fighter helmets once worn here. Option 2 color: Red or Yellow Please help me decide what the Pyro Techs would prefer because on your recommendations I will build my inventory, after all I am catering to Pyro Tech's (as it should be) ^^^^^^^^^^ Korean Style (AKA Gangnam style) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ European style

i guess it would depend on when the system is armed as well. Yes you are 110% correct on that as I rudely found out. In my case I just flipped the switch from test to arm and bang.. (Did not hear the cell ph ringing from the firing) timing was freaking unbelievable on that one, the chance of that happening twice in a row is probably zero to none but the fact still remains it did happen and it could happen again to anyone. Had the same thing happen to a fellow Pyro Buddy on his finale he thought (Key words he thought) he left his phone in car flip switch boom ..awww $%@#^%#^!@^&*#^ Guess it;s time to re- do your show to fix that oopppsss That's why you see may more firing systems in the 2.4 GHz range now. Only problem is there is many other 2.4 Ghz things flying around and also wireless radios and wireless home phones etc so don't count on it wont happen to me or you could have a neat surprise one day.

Welcome Tim! I am fairly new to the pyro world just picking it up this last year here working with CanFire mostly with the western crew but my brother in law has been with them for years out of Winnipeg and my sister started this year as well so try to do a few shows with them in the east. I have a couple of the boruit head lamps that I love using since they are sooooo bright but just need to do some digging for better batteries to last longer haha Thanks for the friendly hello and welcome. Glad to hear there is some local talent around on here also. Well..... I am working on spare batteries coming soon........... damn hagglers. Also you mention the headlamps, be careful there are plenty of fakes on market and we direct import from factory original with warranty, others not so much. If you need anything you know where to find us I am going to add a tips and tricks page shortly for a few folks who maybe would like to maybe learn something new, maybe share something with some of the newer folks etc.

A camel pack is on my list of things to buy for next year!!! I wear a bump cap and safety glasses when shooting, but would be interested in a firefighter style helmet if there was a version that was light like a normal hard hat if there is such a thing. I like the shape of a firefighter helmet with rear neck protection but find they are to bulky/heavy overkill to use hand firing... Overkill hmmm so is dead or injured so I always error on the side of caution and will overdue the safety gear for myself but hey what do I know seeing as ERD has the minimum as MUST WEAR : Safety glasses Recommended = Fire turn out gear helmet ear plugs, safety glasses, steel toe boots etc etc I want to see an apprentice show up with only safety glasses in the field *Ready , aim fired!!!!!* GTFO off my field - the end! All other industries require occupational health and safety requirements yet the most dangerous of them requires safety glasses... my brain hurts just repeating that. oK done with my rant, back to regular programming boys and girls. I am working on Fire helmets as we speak so please encourage others to pick on poll

Aww nuts. I agree with you - hope she is ok.
I guess till the investigation is done we can assume all sorts of things and I can point at tools and safety all day long but till the formal info comes out I also hope speedy recovery and all the best. Hate hearing about this kind of crap happening.
Very sad.

Hi Kooks, nice to meet you.
To be quite honest the flip down visor (please keep in mind this is my opinion and experience I have with these) they are not worth trusting. Reason ask the fire fighter from Manitoba from a local RM (not going to mention which one who lost his eye a couple years back wearing full FF turn out gear with flip down visor, the shell that came out the side of a cake bounced off the visor and into his eye. I also closely have worked with a few Pyro Techs/ Fire Fighters who used the flip down visor style helmet for doing wood cutting (Chainsaw) and they cant see past the grid of visor it is at night.
If you really want good or decent anti fog I would recommend the googles we carry or even the cheaper glasses they have a great anti fog coating on them. If that is not you thing then you can always go to Marks work warehouse and grab a bottle of this anti fog called Cat Crap ( I am not kidding) it works pretty good.
There is a right tool and safety equipment for every job and you have to decide what is best for you at the end of the day. If you need some product advice on what I carry or help please ask I will give you my 10 Cents (Free) LOL

The cell phone thing has to do with interference of radio signal, especially with remote firing systems and radio interference. I know happened to me no thanks to forgetting to leave cell phone in truck or at home and was doing test of lines and guess what? call came in at the wrong damn second and boom off went some pyro to my surprise.
Leave phone at home or in vehicle far away especially if using wireless firing system, handheld radios will do same and it is all relative to distance from system and output of cell phone or handheld radio. Have had this conversation with CF radio specialists and at the end of the day it does not matter how fancy of a firing system you think you own the wrong signal at the wrong time and / or too close of proximity will make your show come to life sooner then expected.
I never used to believe it could happen till it happened once to me and never again. (Disclaimer: no humans or animals were hurt in the making of this) LOL

Hi all, The tools and safety equipment you use doing pyro pro or even family shows is well deadly important. Some people like to just do the status quo thing or this is good enough but the fact is it's not and there are stipulations by ERD as to what kind of tools you should be using.... Non conductive / stainless / etc. Soooooo not to be a thread whore but if you need proper tools and equipment come check out my site for gear: link It is still a growing site so please be patient with me.
