There were only 4 cases of Covid-19 in Liuyang Hunan China. Hunan province is directly adjacent to Hubei province (where Wuhan is) which was origin of the outbreak. Liuyang is the center of the largest fireworks manufacturing area in China. So (this was from an Email from China) In China some people even suggest to shoot fireworks in large Numbers to kill off the virus, though there is no scientific basis for this In that case.. or truck loads.... I am all for it, where do we get the CRA expense claim form to have it paid for, you know to help releve stress (mine) and to entertain the public (Everyone including me) and waste tax dollars for something that everyone would enjoy / rattle them out of the depression and well maybe kill off some of the virus. I vote for let's shoot the virus out of the sky nightly with fireworks!!!!! (As long as someone else is paying for it) LOL!

China has mostly overcome the Covid-19 epidemic and fireworks production is up and running. The last of the containers I ordered for this year is being manufactured right now and is expected to arrive about 3 weeks later than expected before Covid-19 happened. This is a container of product that was authorized and ordered last November which is very late to order for delivery before the peak June/July fireworks season. I usually have the last order placed by early September. I am fully stocked and my storage is very close to legal maximum storage weight/volume. If sales do not recover in time I will have to add a couple of containers to be able to store the last incoming container. I usually ship wholesale shipments from January to April and that volume is down. No one wants to stock up until they know they will have sales. Of course all fireworks shows within the next month are already cancelled. Pricing remains the same for this year as last year but I am very concerned where exchange rates between the Canadian Dollar and the Chinese Reminbi are going. Right now the CAD has already devalued by about 9% since the beginning of Covid-19. The United States very poor response to Covid-19 could affect the value of our currency for an extended period of time. Also Canada's response although better than what is happening in the USA is far less than what China did quarantining and locking down millions of people. If our dollar continues to be worth less against the Reminbi it will drive up the price of fireworks and everything else we buy from China. I think it is long overdue to turn Canada into a police state for a while so that we can lock down the morons who are not complying with the directives to stay home and social distance. China has proven it works. Remember this is about saving lives. All the economic concerns are nothing compared to death by Covid-19. I would ba happy to look after the 300 shot Crackling cakes for testing purposes..... yeah that's the ticket!!!!! LOL Hopefully the Covidiots smarten up, people are too busy treating this like an incovenience instead of taking it seriously. People need to be reminded this is not a you and I thing this is a whiole planet and everyone kind of thing. Not just the old or people with underlying conditions - I am not going to go into it full on but if you are ok with letting the sick , old or people with underlying health conditons take one for the team because you are too busy in your life to care / selfish then it is you who needs a mental health professional to speak with, to the rest please stay safe and do things by being thoughtful towards others and the safety of all. Stay Safe!

It looks like the rules for living, interactions etc will change greatly and maybe forever as far as we know it. That is yet to be determined. We might have to look at new ways to have to set up shows including protection of all apprentices and staff at events and then the next will be if events will be allowed outdoor at all. This virus has no plans on packing up and going home so we might very well have to wait till the gov releases rules and laws moving forward. If you think life is going back to how it was 2 months ago any time soon.... think again.

On Saturday November 10th at 4pm, a licensed supervisor with 10 years experience, was removing leftover shells from the night before at the International Control Dam. An incident occurred and he was severely hurt. He was transported by helicopter to a hospital in Hamilton with major trauma to his face. There are many rumours on what happened, but regardless he is very hurt. At this point they have postponed tonight's display, and tomorrow the Winter Festival of Lights will be making an announcement. When you look a their website, all the dates have been taken down. This may be the end of the competition after only one show. I hope the Technician (Kenny) is doing well and makes a speedy recovery. Play safe boys and girls. Safe and speedy recovery to him. Sad to hear about these things happening.

I don't want to sound like I am against fireworks competitions. If a competition is companies honestly competing to show their ability and skill to build their reputation that to me is a competition. That requires significant input on the part of the competing company making their best effort to win. I think we have fireworks competitions in Canada that foster that kind of participation. But is it really a competition if the organizing company buys all the fireworks, hires 2 guys from each foreign company to supervise the show setup and the organizing company competes every time a competition is held? It seems that is what is possible under the current Canadian regulation of international fireworks competitions. I 100% agree with you. This is not truly an international fireworks competition. This is a profit generating venture for the organizing company and a way from them to import lower cost products for them to use on a daily basis. A competition where the host country picks a couple (min) or a few participating country members and call that a multi country competition??? Sounds to me like stacking the deck, kind of like when you pay the media 500 m or allow non Canadians to vote. For these "competitions" to be true competitions ERD / other should step in and say all team members must be of said company and country with up to 2 Max Canadian =s as only guidance or assistance for rules or regulations nothing more. The resale of fireworks brought in should not even be allowed. Use it or lose it, as in if you don't use it in show it goes for destruction to ERD or local authority / police. That would level the playing field / be fair.

Know what you are talking about but it will never happen simply because a drone show is just that a fancy led light show in the sky that is done all by computers and programs an actual fireworks show has smoke, fire and flames not to mention report Drone = 0 A fireworks show has depth and is a form of art drones = fancy FX done by computer program not art at all. If the argument is environmentally friendly blah blah blah then munch granola and hug a tree skip the art in the sky and have fun with the fancy LED lights that make the same effect my Christmas lights for $19.95 I paid at Walmart do (minus the flying but I have an extension cord and I can swing that MOFO ... LOL) If the argument is price... What do you think a 100 + drones would cost to buy, set up and program for each show? What about air traffic and regulations for use of such things?? etc laws have been made to stop use of these items all together in certain areas.
The whole animal thing is nothing more than PETA and others looking for a fight that does not exist, so what do these same people and animals do when fire trucks / ambulance / Police cars / Police Helicopters / Civilian and military aircraft and lets not forget The Trucking industry and last but not least the motorcycle drivers with loud exhausts or the Asian cars with special mufflers that scare and annoy the public day and night do? Nothing more than excuses to look for some way to ban , prohibit or cause problems for the rest of us who are artists and have been and will be doing this long into the future with or without drones.
If anything Drones should be banned as they are a menace to air traffic and have been in the news causing problems over and over fireworks not so much.
At the end of the day we are pyrotechnicians and not FX LED light and sound guys and gals, pyrotechnics has been around for centuries and has been an art for centuries Drones..not so much.
My 2 cents!

All my shows we've used just regular CSA hardhats with the add on flip down ear muffs. For eye protection we double up, safety glasses AND goggles. I second the not using the flip down visors, as I'seen sparks and fragments fly up and get caught in them. Especially when hand firing. Add - hard hats are good, as we can color code them as well so its easier to Identify who is who on the field. This is also very handy when you have trainees - easier to keep track of them ! The main thing is you take safety seriously and make sure your crew does as well that is the main thing at the end of the day.

Tell any other businesses and supplier's you deal with about this issue as it only harms the whole industry not to mention they are making money off of you and others misfortune which makes us all look bad at the end of the day. Besides that who wants the public thinking that all fireworks folks are rip off artists??
This is a much deeper problem then just you being burnt from the sounds of it.

Are you ripping apart a cake and refusing it? Unless you have a manufacturing license to do it and an authorization for the modified product, I would not be going down that road Step 1 get you display assistant license Step 2 call Fred Wade of Fireworks FX, he works in your area and might be looking for help for shows. Great guy, very knowledgeable Step 3 look listen and learn. It'll take a while and you'll learn what product can do what, use that knowledge to build your shows. That way you won't be breaking a dozen Federal explosive regulations Do not rip product apart, choose products that create the flair you want ^^^^^^^^^^^^ What he said, think of the children! Jokes aside the above is true.
